Christmas Fun

Last weekend we took the kids to downtown Katy for a little Christmas fun. They talked to Santa, played in the (pretend) snow and explored the old town Katy train!

Sometimes as Moms we build up the expectations of what fun times we are going to have with our kids when we get the extra time home with them. Then someone is tired or overly energetic or just plain cranky and things don't go as planned.

This past week, the first two days of us all being home together were hard. Hayden's over excitement for the holidays had given him a dose (or two) of extra energy and his behavior was a bit wild. So, I had to tweak our days a bit and by Wednesday we had a great day together and he was back on track! I get used to him being in school 4 days a week so I have to get us all adjusted over the breaks.

Hayden does really well with constant activities to do so we started our day with lego time at the table. Emerson had her own toys to play with next to him and this made fighting non existent. After they had some free play we baked brownies and cupcakes and they had fun helping!!

The kids then played outside and had their snack. Then they came in for a bit and painted and then had a little down (TV) time while I got lunch ready. After that it was time for rest/quiet time and the rest of the day was smooth and uneventful. Daddy got home and we had a nice time working on our ginger bread house and had a nice dinner together and it was a great day. I so appreciated this after a really rough start!

After being in the house for three days with the exception of quick errands, we were so excited to spend Thursday in Galveston with Grandmom!!!

First stop was a late lunch at Fisherman's Wharf on the water. What a good view!

After that we were off to explore all the cute shops on the strand!! It is not very stroller friendly but we did what we could and still enjoyed ourselves.

Up next was ice cream at LaKing's!! So yummy and I just love the old time-y feel in there. Such a cute place.

My Sawyer had fun walking (holding onto things of course) all around and just smiling up a storm. He does this cute thing lately where he smiles SO huge with his eyes closed tightly. He's so super adorable!! He took a few steps to Mommy the other day and I think it will be no time before he's walking. Eeeeee. My baby is getting big! He's getting really good at standing unassisted and finding his balance.

After ice cream we killed some more time on the Strand and finally headed over to Moody Gardens for the Festival of Lights!

We watched the Nativity exhibit and I loved hearing the Christmas story and the kiddos were enthralled. It was really neat. I loved the stroll and seeing all the lights. We got some hot chocolate and kettle corn. It was truly a perfect day. The only thing missing was Daddy!!!

Yesterday Kris's Mom got in first thing in the morning and we really just spent the day finishing up our shopping and wrapping up loose ends around the house.

That evening she sat the kids while we went to Bill and Sarah's Festivus celebration! It was a fun adult evening sans the kiddos and we really enjoyed ourselves. I love having his Mom here b/c Kris and I get to do little things just the two of us. Even if it's just running to get coffee together or a quick trip to the store, I love it! As parents you find joy in the little things!

We are fixing to get dressed all purdy for Christmas Eve service and a lovely dinner together as a family. Then it's adult presents and all of our family traditions on the night before Christmas.

I wanted to get this posted before my Christmas pics b/c there are always SO many!!!!!
